Outback FX2000 Inverters

The OutBack FX2000 series inverter is a modular

"building block" sine-wave inverter/charger that can

be used for both residential and commercial stand-

alone and utility-interactive applications with battery

energy storage. Each FX inverter/charger module is

a complete power conversion system - DC to AC

inverter, battery charger and AC

transfer switch. Additional invert-

er/chargers can be added at

any time in

either parallel

(120VAC),

series

(120/240VAC),

or even three-

phase (120Y208

VAC) configura-

tions, allowing the

system to be tailored

to the specific needs

of the application,

both at the time of

installation and into the

future. With the addition of an X-

240 autotransformer, multiple inverter sys-

tems can be set up to provide 120/240 VAC split-

phase output with the ability to provide full power

on either 120 VAC leg of the system or 240 VAC.

Up to eight FX2000s can be connected together to

provide up to 20 kW of continuous power capacity

with the use of the HUB or STACK units and the

MATE controller

The FX2000 is also available in export versions

with 230 VAC/50Hz output that can be connected in

parallel (230VAC) or in three-phase (230Y400 VAC)

configurations.

The inverter's powerful battery charger operates in

five stages: BULK (constant current output),

ABSORB (constant voltage output), FLOAT

(reduced voltage output), SILENT (no charger out-

put) and EQUALIZE (constant voltage regulation

overcharging). The time that it spends in various

stages is adjustable to provide control and maximize

the performance of the charger and battery system.

Each FX2000 has one programmable, auxiliary

relay output connection (AUX). The AUX terminal

provides 12 VDC output to run 12V cooling or ven-

tilation fans or operate an external relay to perform

other functions, such as remote generator starting

(two-wire), to disconnect external charging sources

(such as PV), or to turn on a diversion load for volt-

age regulation.

The built-in transfer switch is

rated for 60 amps. When

an external source of AC

power (either a genera-

tor or the utility grid)

is detected at the

"AC In" terminal on

the inverter, the

switch operates

to transfer the

loads to the

external power

source, and then

activates the battery

charger to re-charge the

battery bank.

The OutBack

FX2000 is designed to survive

harsh environments anywhere in

the world. Their unique sealed, gasketed

die-cast aluminum chassis protects and keeps the

power conversion components cool without requir-

ing outside air to be blown through the sensitive

electronics. This reduces the major causes of inverter

failure - corrosion, dust, insect and animal damage.

The FX2000 can be used in high ambient tempera-

ture applications up to 60°C with reduced output rat-

ings.

The FX2000 series inverters are designed to oper-

ate as a coordinated system with the other OutBack

system components such as the PSDC, PSAC and

PSR enclosures as well as the MX60 MPPT charge

controllers and MATE system controller and display.
